David N. Schachter

Education: B.S., cum laude, University of Colorado Boulder; J.D., Santa Clara University School of Law

David is a skillful and creative business attorney who began his legal career in Silicon Valley in 1981, just as the high-tech phenomenon was beginning to emerge on the global landscape. He represents a wide range of individuals and businesses, from small to large and from concept to start-up to acquisition. David advises and protects clients on virtually every aspect of commerce, including intellectual property protection and registration, corporate, M&A and general commercial matters, technology transactions, entity formation, entrepreneurial activities, employment and traditional contract relationships. He also provides specialized advice in developing areas of commerce, including the Internet, cloud services, domain disputes, e-commerce, Internet of things, social media, SEO practices, electronic sabotage, electronic signatures, drones and UAS issues, cannabis and wireless communications.

He is a frequent speaker and writer, and has regularly given talks both to legal and non-legal trade groups throughout the Western United States on commercial matters and intellectual property. He authors a regular technology column for the Denver Business Journal, and sits on several business advisory boards, including Seller Readiness, Cranium Studios and 5280 Professional Alliance. He is also a member of the mentor faculty at The Commons on Champa, Denver’s entrepreneurial start-up headquarters. He is a board member of the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and also serves on the board of directors for National History Day in Colorado. David volunteers in the Denver community, and actively supports Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation of Denver.

David is proud to be a second-generation Colorado native, and outside of work he is an outdoor enthusiast, musician, animal lover, occasional inventor, and full time father to his twin teenagers, whom he and his wife raise in their East Denver home. David’s favorite phrase is borrowed from Frederick G. Bonfils – Colorado’s original start-up pioneer and founder of the Denver Post – who in 1879 uttered the timeless words: “Tis a privilege to live in Colorado.”
